Category 1 Food Alert For Action: The Happy Pear is recalling a batch of Hero Sprouts due to the presence of verotoxigenic E. coli Oxxx.
Message:
Further to FSAI food alert 2016.15, verotoxigenic Escherichia coli OXXX (VTEC) was detected in the above batch of The Happy Pear Hero Sprouts. This batch is being recalled from consumers by The Happy Pear. The product contains a mix of sprouted alfafa, broccoli, clover and radish seeds.
Nature Of Danger:
VTEC may cause severe bloody diarrhoea and abdominal cramps, although sometimes the infection causes non-bloody diarrhoea or no symptoms. In some groups, particularly children under 5 years of age and the elderly, the infection can also cause a complication called haemolytic uraemic syndrome (HUS).

Relevant PEHOs will be emailed directly and asked to verify that point-of-sale recall notices have been displayed in shops that were supplied with this batch.
Manufacturers, wholesalers, distributors, caterers & retailers:
Food businesses are requested to remove the affected batch from sale and clearly display a point-of-sale recall notice informing customers not to eat it.
Consumers:
Consumers are advised not to consume the implicated batch of sprouts. Anyone who has consumed this product and is feeling unwell should seek medical advice.
